Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these
commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of
heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great
in the kingdom of heaven. |
How can a mere mortal- a sinner- have a righteousness that surpasses that of the Pharisees and the Teachers of the Law? I suggest the answer is as suggested above, and what Jesus goes on to describe in the verses following that anger and lust, are the heart attitudes that are condemned, or commitment and honesty and mercy commanded over the mere outward act of self- righteousness . Always pointing out that it is poverty of spirit, or humility, that allows God to work in us. |
